Dear parent who’s debating whether to give your child the Covid vaccine

Dear parent who’s debating whether to give your child the Covid vaccine,

Wait, let me get this straight. You’re worried about injecting your child with some unknown chemical? You’ve heard it might cause infertility and can’t imagine how guilty you would feel if that happened? You’re worried the vaccine is brand new technology and you don’t want your kiddo to be the guinea pig? Have I got the general idea of how you’re feeling? I think I do.

And I get it. That totally makes sense. I’m so sorry you’re feeling so conflicted, and I genuinely mean that. This post is not meant to belittle people who are on the fence. It’s just a way to show you how I made MY decision.

I’d probably feel the same way as you if (and this is a big IF) if those myths were true. The thing is, it’s not just some random unknown chemical. It’s an mRNA vaccine that tells your body to produce a specific protein, which in turn triggers an immune response so your body learns how to fight Covid. They’ve been working on mRNA technology for decades. The only reason I know all this is because I looked it up on the CDC website and Johns Hopkins Medicine where the scientists explained it in a way that stupid people like me can understand it. The whole thing is pretty damn awesome if you ask me.

I don’t know how the F scientists figure this shit out. Like I see blood and I’m like oooh, look at that liquidy red stuff. But they see blood and they’re like I wonder what particles it’s made of and how we can make those particles act differently? Wha-WHAT?!! That’s incredible that their minds even think that way. That would never even occur to me.

So do I trust the scientists? Yes, I do. Wanna know why? Because they’re like 10 billion times smarter than I am and know wayyyy more about this stuff than I do. I mean sure I could ignore them and just decide things for myself, but why on earth would I trust my stupider mind over their more brilliant minds?

So yes I trust them. I trust them when I give my kid the polio vaccine. I trust them when they say it’s okay to give my kiddo 5 ml of Baby Tylenol. I trust them when they tell me not to use sunscreen on my newborn. I trust them when they say vegetables are healthier than chocolate. I trust them because they’ve studied science and know WTF they’re talking about. Which is why I’m trusting them when it comes to the Covid vaccine for my kids.

But what about how THEY say the Covid vaccine causes infertility? Okay, first of all, that’s not how these vaccines work. And second of all, who are THEY? Are THEY scientists? Are THEY doctors? Or are THEY just people on the Internet who don’t want you to get your kid vaccinated so they go and make a TikTok about fake myths and create charts and stuff to make it look all scientificky and believable? And honestly, I don’t understand why THEY are trying so hard to spread their message anyway. What do THEY care what you do with YOUR child?

YOUR child, YOUR decision.

If you want to vaccinate your kiddo, go for it. If you don’t, don’t. If you want to listen to the scientists, listen to them. If you want to listen to your gut instead, that’s your call. But please, don’t listen to the asshats who are just randomly making up shit or regurgitating someone else’s made-up shit.

There are reputable (I had to type that word like four times before I got it right) people out there who really know what they’re doing. Listen to them. Don’t listen to me. I don’t know WTF I’m talking about. But at least I’m willing to admit it.

Sincerely,

A mom who listened to the scientists and gave her daughter the Covid vaccine

P.P.S. If you disagree with me, please share your thoughts respectfully. Discussions are great. Mean words and hostility makes everyone unhappy and have no place here.

Thank you!! OMG, if my mother in law send me one more of those clearly fake videos showing how the Covid vaccine is some kind of government testing hoax that’ll mutate your children’s heads…I don’t know what exactly I’ll do but it won’t be pretty.

Yes!! I’m struggling with my mom believing all the myths and truly thinking I’m going to die because I got the vaccine. It’s so frustrating! My daughter will be 12 in a couple months, and by golly, we are going to listen to the advice and guidance of our amazing Pediatrician who has seen our girl since she was 2 lbs!

“Clearly fake”? Seriously, do your own research instead of just listening to the “experts” who very clearly do not have our best interests or health in mind.

    Thank you BS!!!!

PS: That’s BS for Baby Sideburns. Not me sarcastically saying thank you and calling this blog BS.

PPS: See? I can be funny too.

Totally agree with you. Sent to my kids as they are ones deciding for my grandkids

THANK YOU! The more of us get vaccinated, the safer all of us will be, especially those who are too young/too ill/won’t get good immunity from the vaccine. I know people who survived polio (from another country); my MIL’s brother was brain-damaged by whooping cough. Vaccines save lives, and save QUALITY OF LIFE. I have a 38 year old patient who can’t work from neurological problems from covid. My husband took care of a 41 year old long-hauler who is permanently brain-damaged and can’t even talk or respond. This is a serious, life-altering disease. Protect yourself and your families.

    • Ann Oyed at 12:28 pm

It’s only life-altering because the powers that be have been suppressing real, proven, scientific/medical treatments and medicines from people, and mainstream/social media have been suppressing truth and evidence. So many individuals who died WITH – NOT OF – covid could have been saved. The virus has a 99% survival rate. Also, since when has a vaccine’s efficacy every depended on everybody getting it? Talk about ignoring the science… vax pushers are just as dangerous as “anti-vaxxers”.

Love this, thank you! It’s about risk evaluation for me. The risk of a side effect from the vaccine is much lower than the risk of a negative long-term side effect from Covid, or the risk of my kid getting Covid and unknowingly passing it to someone who can’t get vaccinated for whatever reason or a little who’s too young for the vaccine right now.

Thanks for sharing your perspective. Here’s how I made my decision…

    1. Do I personally know doctors that have done extensive research and will NOT be taking the vaccine or giving it to their loved ones? YES

    2. Do I personally know people that have had the vaccine and had terrible side effects? YES

    3. Do I personally know people that got covid (with and without vaccine) and have all fully recovered? YES

    3. Is it worth the risk to give my child a controversial vaccine for a virus that has a 99% recovery rate? NO

Our family has chosen to focus on social distancing, hand washing, and boosting our natural immune system.

Thank you for leaving this comment. I wanted to come on here, guns blazing, to blast the author for her condescending comments about parents’ opinions on masks (a different article that a co-worker printed and shared with me thinking I’d find it funny – I didn’t)… but I saw this article first. And then I read your comment. You make wonderful, realistic points, and you do so calmly. I’m so extremely tired of people and their hateful, belittling, short-sighted, patronizing, sarcastic comments towards others who don’t share the same opinions about all this covid bs.

Scientifiky… bwaahaha. I’m using that word somehow today.

  8. Dione at 6:26 pm

I’ve had to mute a few friends and
family members because all they do is post how we are all Guinea pigs, how all vaccinated people are going to die within 2 years, how this is all to control population and prove how we are all so easily controlled . blah blah blah. How do we get these people to understand what they are saying is all crap?????

    • Ann Oyed at 12:11 pm

Maybe you should turn off the TV and social media and do some actual research before coming to the conclusion that it’s “all crap”.

So jealous. G*****n Justin Trudeau screwed up the vaccination system here in Canada and now it’s so hard to book an appointment…..

    • Ann Oyed at 12:14 pm

Pretty soon, you won’t be able to do anything in Canada as the country continues stripping its citizens of their God-given rights and freedoms. But, hey, don’t forget to get your booster and sign up for your immunity subscription service!

I appreciate your article and the way you made your decision. I respect anyone that goes the extra step to actually review the science and search for first hand experiences.
I have a question that I will research for myself but figured I could pose it to you as well.
I had Covid with a mild set of symptoms. I didn’t wait 90 days to be vaccinated and had 3 days of ROUGH side effects. I was informed the 90 days would have given my body time to lower the immune response so I wouldn’t have had such a strong immune response to the vaccine. So my question is If my immune system was so strong
    1. Why did I need the vaccine
    2. My mild case of Covid left me with long haul medical problems and the proponents of the vaccine say it ensures you get a milder case if you get it post vaccination. You can get it. You just won’t be hospitalized or die. But a mild case can be life altering like it has been for me. So what’s my incentive? Is it all just not to die of Covid? Because being alive is preferred, but living with the physical and neurological effects of the virus is no day at the beach either.
    3. How do we decide which scenario we choose to subject our kids?
